| Abstract | Access to water, sanitation, and hygiene (WASH) services in Uganda's healthcare facilities (HCFs) remains critically low, with 69% lacking basic water supply, 88% without basic sanitation, and 54% missing essential hygiene provisions. This policy brief, developed by IRC Uganda under the Sanitation and Hygiene Fund Consortium, underscores the urgent need to strengthen WASH in HCFs to enhance healthcare quality and reduce healthcare-associated infections (HAIs). Key policy recommendations include promoting national WASH guidelines, securing sustainable financing, strengthening infection prevention and control (IPC), and fostering strategic partnerships. This initiative is implemented in collaboration with the Ministry of Health and consortium partners, including Water For People, the Ministry of Water and Environment, the Ministry of Education and Sports, Finnish Mondial (AMREF & CARITAS Fort Portal – HEWASA), and UWASNET, under the UNOPS-funded Sanitation and Hygiene Project. |
