Abstract

The purpose of this book, primarily designed as a university text, is to introduce the major topics of water resources planning. It opens with the basic concepts, descriptive framework, theory and history of planning. The author moves on to data management and physical data (including demographics), and the economic, historical, socio-political, and institutional elements behind the planning process. Each step is explained with reference to establishing goals and objectives, formulating alternatives, evaluating alternatives, communicating the planning study, plan implementation and post analysis. Worked out examples and exercises are included. In appendices an overvew of economics is given as well as a listing of computer programmes in BASIC along with their documentation.
